Via Salvatore di Giacomo 8, Agerola (San Lazzaro).
Address
The Colonia Montana is located in the hamlet of San Lazzaro on a viewpoint overlooking the Amalfi coast, with a wide view of the Gulf of Salerno. It is a monumental structure built between 1937-1939, on
the ruins of the nineteenth-century castle of General Avitabile, leader of the Kingdom of the Two Sicilies.
Used as a summer camp for youth under the fascist regime, it carried out this function until the 1970s.
The structure features two bas-reliefs by the futurist sculptor Eros Pellini, which decorate the facade of the structure, known as the ‘Regia Aeronautica Militare’ and the ‘Corpo degli Alpini’ troops destined for the defense of the mountain borders. From here, the poet Salvatore Di Giacomo found inspiration for the famous ‘Luna d’ Agerola’.
Today, following a renovation, it has become home to an important university of tourism and gastronomy.
Outside the structure we find a large park where it is possible to stop or take walks.
Park opening hours: open every day from 9.00 to 20.00
